R3load error with code 2

sapcontrol function OSExecute failed on AIX

$

Hello, colleges.

We try to update SAP JAVA system components by JSPM. The system has two application servers. Servers run under AIX 6.1

We run JSPM on primary instance. During update JSPM stops due to failing of executing by sapcontrol function OSExecute on seconadry instance from primary instance.

The error is Invalid Credentials.

I checked on OS Level with following command:

sapcontrol -nr 00 -host <secondary host> -user <SID>adm password -function OSExecute "ls" 0 0 log.log

Yes, indeed - It is failed with invalid credentials.

I have checked the SAP Note 927637. All is ok.

After long time troubleshooting i discovered that a system log - /var/sys/log/messages contains the following strings:

auth|security:debug sapuxuserchk PAM: pam_authenticate: error Authentication failed

auth|security:debug sapuxuserchk PAM: pam_authenticate: error Permission denied

I have added sapuxuserchk in /etc/pam.conf and the first error - Authentification failed  - has gone from the system log. But the second error still exist there.

Please explain me what does the error "Permission denied" mean. How can find out what permissions are not sufficient for sapuxuserchk?

But may be I get the wrong way?

Thank you very much.

IBM AIX Best Practices

In this section we will provide over time a set of papers and documentation helping to run SAP products on AIX. The focus will be on the one side recommendations specific to the AIX and on the other side the description of procedures involving multiple components like the whitepaper for single sign on.

Key Resources

SAP on Power Systems Best Practices Guide

A new IBM SAP Technical Brief from IBM is available. This document provides a collection of recommendations and best practices for implementing and running SAP landscapes on IBM Power Systems. The focus of this paper is on the PowerVM related system configuration aspects.

Include VIOS Partitions into SAP Performance Monitoring

SAP maintains its own internal monitoring facility for customers and the SAP support organization. In order to address system wide monitoring from within SAP systems IBM react on this customer requirement and provides now an installp package to be installed on a VIOS Server. The installation enables SAP customers to report VIOS performance metrics into selected SAP systems. This closes the gap in landscape monitoring for SAP environments.

Single Sign On for SAP NetWeaver Application Server (ABAP) on Power Systems

The system landscape of companies grows rapidly. At the same time, the number of users increases as in heterogeneous system landscapes one employee often uses several user IDs for different systems. This leads to high maintenance and support effort as well as higher total cost of ownership and security risks. A possible solution to this situation could be Single Sign On (SSO). The name already tells all about SSO: the user has to sign on only once. This means he must remember only one user name and one password. This paper describes the setup of SSO for SAP® NetWeaverTM Application Server based on the KerberosTM protocol. It makes use of the common combination of Windows® workstations grouped in a Microsoft® Active DirectoryTM domain and SAP on Linux® and AIX® running on IBM® PowerTM Systems.

Using AIX Security Expert to harden your AIX running SAP applications

Companies running SAP® applications always dealing with OS hardening as requested by SAP. The intention of this document is to give a brief overview of the existing SAP security guidelines and an introduction to an AIX security tool called AIX Security Expert in the version of AIX6.1 TL1. Thereafter, a summary is provided how to use AIX Security Expert, its benefits and what has to be taken into account for AIX systems running SAP applications. This Version of the document is using AIX Security Expert in the highest level to test the maximum impact of this tool on SAP systems. Applying the described changed to AIX security expert will allow the installation and the operation of the described test scenario. To apply this to productive environments will require to reflect further aspects which can be easily added by using the WebSM of AIX Security Expert.

/sapmnt/SID directory structure for SAP High Availability

$

Hi

We are in the middle of building new SAP landscape for fail over environment.

One of the application server would be in DMZ zone and other application server would be in Internal zone. We tried but we

are not able to make NFS for /sapmnt/SID work in DMZ zone.

Someone suggested us to copy the /samnt/SID in both Internal and DMZ zone. It mean, whenever

we have to make any changes in profiles or upgrade kernel or upgrade Patches, we need to make the

changes in both DMZ and Internal zone or to copy the /sapmnt/SID manually in both zone.

Not sure if this is the right approach to copy /sapmnt/SID in internal and DMZ zone?

Any suggestion would be much appropriated.

Thanks

Incorrect status of SAP processes with IBM Tivoli System Automation

$

0

I recently learned that SAP central service handling of TSA may work a bit differently than the classic way.

Affected instances

  • ASCS (ABAP SAP Central Services)
  • SCS (SAP Central Services - this on is required for Java)

Affected processes

  • message server, this appears in process list this way: ms.sap<SID>_<instance>
  • enqueue server, in process list en.sap<SID>_<instance>

How a classic SAP startup procedure looks like

  1. startsap command is called
  2. startsap starts sapstartsrv process (if not running)
  3. sapcontrol starts instance by Webmethods via sapstartsrv (Start, StartWait, etc.)
  4. sapstart starts the processes

There is a documentation which describes it in a little bit more detailed way: SAP Start Service - Architecture of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server - SAP Library

TSA does it on another way. In this case processes are started directly by *sapctrl*. This way sapstart process is not available in process list.

Okay, but why this is important for me?

sapstart writes sapstart.log in /usr/sap/<SID>/(A)SCS/work folder. This is then evaluated by sapcontrol Webmethod calls, among others by GetProcessList or GetSystemInstanceList ones. Whatever process ID (PID) is found in sapstart.log it will be used for determining the status of process. Even if the process is running, just because it has been started by TSA earlier, but the PID does not match the one is sapstart.log sapcontrol will give GRAY status - in some cases it could be RED as well. SAP Management Console uses the same methods for displaying process status. This could result in

  • wrong alerts
  • issues during software update or upgrade (via Software Update Manager a.k.a. SUM)
  • others

Example

Status:

> sapcontrol -nr 1 -function GetProcessList

28.10.2015 10:44:43

GetProcessList

OK

name, description, dispstatus, textstatus, starttime, elapsedtime, pid

msg_server, MessageServer, GRAY, Stopped, , , 1280

enserver, EnqueueServer, GRAY, Stopped, , , 1280

PIDs:

> ps -ef | grep ms.sap | grep -v grep

sidadm   12802 12787  0 Oct06 ?        00:02:07 ms.sapSID_ASCS01 pf=/usr/sap/SID/SYS/profile/SID_ASCS01_hostname

> ps -ef | grep en.sap | grep -v grep

sidadm   12803 12787  0 Oct06 ?        00:06:06 en.sapSID_ASCS01 pf=/usr/sap/NWC/SYS/profile/SID_ASCS01_hostname

How this should work in fact?

sap vendor cluster connector shuld be able to handle this. Check this document: Connecting sapstartsrv and cluster frameworks using the components saphascriptco.so and sap_vendor_cluster_connector

What if I already have this issue?

There is a workaround available. This is a script wich writes the active process IDs of message server and enqueue server in sapstart.log. This way Webmethods will give the correct status back.

Where can I get the script?

It is attached to SAP Note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1492606 S-User login required.

Result

> sapcontrol -nr 1 -function GetProcessList

28.10.2015 10:56:09

Hi All,

In our landscape we want to step-up HA systems, Before switching the application I want to develop

a script which checks the application status for this I want to know which parameters need to be consider.

(I have tried with R3trans -x, ps -ef |grep dw | wc -l) but I want to know the any other which would be

more helpful for check.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi,

does anybody know about SAP and AIX 7.2 ?

I cannot find any information about NETWEAVER and/or DB2, neither in SAP PAM nor in Google.

We run on NETWEAVER 7.4 and DB2 10.5 and have to build new systems for UNICODE migration the next weeks.

Hi Gurus,

i searched at SCN for solution but no of them works for me.

I installed a new Diagnostics Agent for our J2EE. The J2EE works fine.

But the SMDA does not start. We tried to start without vhost name, with vhost name and with instance. But nothing works.

Zwischenablage02.jpg

The log file gives no hints.

Zwischenablage04.jpg

I checked the permissions for all logs in /tmp also work dir.

I checked ulimit and hosts. But all is fine.

Has someone a suggestion, anymore?

The output should be something like:-

Growth Percentage :-

.1%

-1%

.4%

1%

100%

.4%

.7%

.4%

1%

Any help highly appreciated ..

Greetings Denis, I have downloaded Business Objects 4.1 SERVER WITH SERVICE PACK 5(AIX) (64)Number : 51049033 Version 2014/11/14 51049033. After checking all the requirements and PAM we prepared AIX server with Actual Level - 7.1.2.15 and Maintenance Level 7.1.0.0. This information is fetched form oslevel in "bos.rte" fileset.. After setting the NS.Lang and time we started the installation under non-root user After selecting English and setting up destination folder. We Ran "SETUP.SH" System Started checking " CHECK PREREQUISITES" Getting Error: FAILED: Operating System Patch Level (Critical) Info: (CheckPatchLevelFailReason) (All Others Succeeded) I have been contacting many experts but they are stating AIX is on correct version but no luck.. Can you assist  me or reply me on this.. Will Appreciate your great assistance..
